When travelling along the coastal road between Ferwig and Aberporth you will come across a name sign showing Felinwynt, which is the Welsh for windmill. Historians agree that at one time, many centuries ago, a windmill stood here although no one can give an exact date.

It was very unusual to see this type of mill as all other mills, and there were many of them, relied on water power. Felinwynt is more of a community than a village and consists of about 30 houses and farms. It is surrounded by a number of small villages with Aberporth at the north end and the ancient market town of Cardigan in the south. This is also where Ferwig Community Council and Aberporth Community Council share a boundary. There are two chapels in the area Ffynnonbedr, an Independent chapel on the Penyparc Road and the Methodist chapel, Blaencefn, on the Ferwig road. Both chapels were built over a century ago and are still used today in spite of their rural location. Before people had telephones installed in their homes, and later still, the mobile phone, the community relied on public telephones and even though the equipment has been removed, an old red telephone kiosk remains standing at the side of the road in Felinwynt to remind us of bygone times. It is now owned by Ferwig Community Council. This area attracts many tourists and is very convenient to local beaches. There are a number of little coves along the coastline and one of these is Beles where seals can be observed swimming in the sea and basking on the rocks. Twenty five years ago a Rainforest Centre was opened in Felinwynt and has proved popular with tourists and locals alike, especially the schools. A purpose built building was erected providing the right climate to breed and exhibit tropical butterflies. Even though the present owners are retiring it is hoped that the centre will reopen again in the near future.
